I'm not reflexively anti-HRC like many are these days, and I think some of the good work done over there is sometimes overshadowed by some of the political infighting that periodically arises over the direction of the big gay agenda. But, if this report from Jason Bellini at the Daily Beast is accurate, then I would be very, very angry. The idea that ending Don't Ask, Don't Tell would be put on hold for hate crimes legislation, in particular, is infuriating.
I've already gotten frustrated and angry with the Obama administration over its lackadaisical approach to repealing DADT -- Andrew Sullivan nailed it as "The fierce urgency of whenever" -- and this ain't gonna help.
UPDATE: Pam Spaulding has a good round-up of the whirlwind of activity on DADT, including both denials and possible confirmation of Bellini's report, as well as Joe Solmonese's new support for an executive order to stop DADT discharges while we wait for Congress to become the last people in the nation to understand that Americans support repeal by more than 2 to 1.
Prioritizing hate crimes ahead of allowing able-bodied same-gender-loving Americans from accessing the privileges conferred through military service--remember, Queers with disabilities are still screwed--is idiotic... just like continuing to financially aid politicians who stab us in the back. Sounds like the Homosexualist Retrograde Club!
