In what may be the least surprising bit of personnel management in the history of journalism, Jeff Gannon finds himself having to use the title former Washington Blade columnist. Everyone's talking about the reasoning new head honcho Kevin Naff uses for firing him -- it's about credibility, not ideology, which seems fair enough to me -- but not so much about Gannon's look-on-the-brightside approach to the news. As he told FishbowlDC: "Because of my association with the Washington Blade, new opportunities have arisen that I will continue to pursue."
I had sworn off writing any more about the Gannon thing a while back because it was just too easy, and I had better and more productive things to do than read his column -- reading, playing videogames, making small children cry. But I have to say farewell, though I'm unfortunately certain that it won't be a final farewell. Thanks for the contribution to journalism, Chris Crain. Way to leave the profession worse off than how you found it.
