Since 2000, I've worked as editor-in-chief of Metro Weekly, D.C.'s gay and lesbian magazine -- I've written for it since the first issue more than 10 years ago. It's the accidental culmination of my childhood dream -- fueled by fervent watching of "Lou Grant" -- to be a journalist. It's not exactly the career path I dreamed of taking, but given how career dreams usually end up in the real world, I'm pretty darn pleased with it.
An urban transplant from rural Kentucky, I spent my early years in D.C. as a fairly stereotypical gay party boy, chronicling my adventures in a weekly column, "The Back Room." I've now settled down with my partner in the inner suburbs, where I enjoy unfettered parking, a more tolerable siren-to-silence ratio, and enough space that I only have to keep half of my books packed away in boxes.
