I got an e-mail last night from a friend asking why I had “gone dark” on Twitter. Always nice that someone notices! The short answer is that I’ve been busy. The long answer is about the same, that I’ve been busy...with work.
Twitter, for me, is not conducive to intensive periods of thought and writing. You know, work. It’s less a problem with Twitter and other intrusive social media and more of a design flaw with me. When I have things I need to do, Twitter becomes like a fat, hairy piece of yarn to a kitten -- generally pointless but infinitely interesting.
The obvious question is: What work? Which is a fair question, given that it’s not like I’d been living a work-free existence before my recent electronic withdrawal. But, in addition to the magazine and other projects, I really needed to hunker down and finish some things I’ve been toying with for a few months. The good news is it worked -- and I’ll have more news on one project in particular in the next week or so. Hint: It involves something that’s made from trees and is sometimes kept in a library. If any whippersnappers even remember what a library is these days.
Otherwise, I’m officially re-plugged, so bring on the yarn.
